We took some time away from the commercial courts to visit the scene of cult comedy ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ — Venice Beach.

An amazing hive of activity in an incredible background.

What struck me was that people just turned up and played. No club, nobody organising, just people of all ages turning up and abiding street rules.

We also bumped into the Washington Huskies watching the street courts. It served as a nice reminder of where most of them had once derived, a contrast between the bright lights of ESPN and games on the street.
